João Duque
João was born in Coimbra, Portugal, in 1997 and started filming at the age of eight with a PlayStation Portable camera. Three pixels, no dynamic range, and just enough quality to convince his family they were movie stars. It wasn’t about the gear, but about figuring out how to make something work.
He went on to study audiovisuals and began working as a freelance director, initially focusing on music videos with artists such as EU.CLIDES, Tainá and LEFT.
A period in Salzburg, Austria, followed, working within the advertising agency Zooom Productions and contributing to commercial projects for clients such as Red Bull, Panasonic, Schöffel, Kelag, Yodobashi and Stromer.
After some time in the Alps, he chose to step away and return to Portugal, focusing fully on directing and cinematography.
The tools and contexts have changed, but the approach remains the same: starting from what is there and finding a way to turn it into something that feels true.
